What is being relatable in your personal brand really mean?

October 31, 2024

When I ask people why did they choose their realtor, their web designer, their massage therapist.. anything really. They say “because I liked *this* about them and I could connect with them on it” in some form or another.

Which is relatability.

So when it comes to our branding photos, why is it so many people RUSH to perfection? They want this full gallery of studio perfect images where they look stiff (because they are nervous) and it barely says anything about them to connect to their audience.

Does that mean you shouldn’t do those photos? Definitely not, they are GREAT to support as a headshot. Just make it YOUR own in some form – no one needs another grey background set of headshots that blends in with every other person in your network.

Oops, did I say that?

They also shouldn’t be all your branding photos. You need branding photos, not just portraits and that means showing yourself in ways that people can connect. Bringing in those elements of character, your brand and things people can find to relate to you in THAT moment.

  • That not-so-perfect laughing expression that is so infectious people want to reach out.
  • The places you’ve been working so people can imagine you meeting them there.
  • You fully involved in your craft so people can see your passion.

…or in the case of my photo here: How easy it is to just create content ANYWHERE. 😉

Are your branding photos saying anything about your personal brand or is it just another pretty picture?
